One Big Bird

I'm sitting in my sunroom, which is where the laptop and the TV live, and suddenly out of the corner of my eye, I see this. It's the closest I've seen a Pileated Woodpecker (this one is male, according to the book I have), and holy cow, that's one big bird. (I didn't get the best picture ever, because I was fumbling with the camera, but I bet I see it again now that it's found a yummy food source.)

  3. If I had a sunroom, my camera would not be there to get the picture of the gorgeous pileated woodpecker! And I love your trellis!

  4. Wow! That's an amazing picture. At first, I didn't see the feeder and thought he had just paused to admire the stained glass.

  5. Isn't that the bird that used to get confused with the Ivory-billed woodpecker, down here in AR? Both huge birds, but that one's just a tiny bit smaller. (Dr. Kannan, on our campus, hunted the ivory-bill in one our our swamps for several summers.)

  6. Um, hunted, as in tried to see if they were still around. Not like in bang-bang hunted. I'm sure you knew that.
