Orchard Oriole

I've been hanging out with my camera set up on the tripod all morning. I'd see a bird land at the orange, and I'd try to sneak up and click a photo, but they'd see me move and poof! But this guy took a good look and decided I wasn't much to worry about, and had a snack while I took some pictures!

The combination of the doubler and being able to pre-focus really helped!

  3. Have you considered a cable release? A long cable release to trigger the shutter would keep you out of the bird's vision.

(Do modern cameras support cable releases?)

  6. What a beautiful bird! Aren't birds just the most amazing creatures? They seem so free to me. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Thanks, all.

Zebee, my camera won't take a cable release, I don't think, but may take a remote control.

Pocha, I use a Canon Eos Rebel XT; this was taken with a70x300 zoom and a 2x. The bird's about 12 feet from the camera, I'm guessing.

  9. Beautiful!

Just curious - what's the green background?

  10. Thanks :)

Peggy, the green background is the green space behind my house. There are trees and grasses and such down there, but it's so very out of focus that it looks all vague. It's interesting that it looks so light, because in focus it looks pretty green.
