I'm a Prude

Evidence: I find it disturbing to read about someone who has (it's publicly acknowledged) fucked his (now former) student teaching about "ethics in [a non-philosophy field]."

Yep. I also think, if you're married, and your marriage isn't specifically an open marriage, you should keep your penis out of other women's vaginas or keep your vagina free of other men's penises (if you have a choice).

See, told you I'm a prude.

  1. I wouldn't call it prudery. You're objecting to the ethical violation of the agreement this person had made with another individual compounded by their complete inability to see that this compromises their own suitability to teach about ethics.

I agree 100% with your opinion!

  2. Nothing prudish about this. It's just about thinking that commitments matter, relationships matter, and that teaching is a relationship. Sigh.

  3. To say nothing of the very serious issue of abuse of power that comes with a relationship between student and professor. There's a lot one can say about power dynamics within relationships, but I always end up concluding that that particular dynamic is toxic and corrosive. Pretty freaky, to say the least, that the prof in this case teaches ethics, especially if the field were to include, say, "whether or not you should bonk your students."

  4. This means I'm a prude, too. And I'm okay with that.
