That Jerk?

I just did etymology on effbee at someone.  I hope I wasn't too jerky about it.

A friend who speaks English as a second language asked about a word, someone answered, and I responded too, and then this other person "corrected" me with a sort of pedantic tone saying that we should look at the root, and then I pulled the OED.

I love the OED. I also love the OEDILF (http://www.oedilf.com/db/Lim.php). And I love using "OED" and "QED," just because.

"OED" *as* "QED" is what I meant to say, not "and."

I think that once someone "corrects" you and they're wrong, it's time to take them to school. I'm sure you were courteous about it.

  3. I'm with meansomething. Once someone gets pedantic at you (and, as I hear it in my head, mansplainy as well), then the gloves need to come off. But maybe I'm just petty like that.
