Bardiac Gets a New Roof

I've blogged a little recently about getting a new roof.  And now it's getting done.  They started on Tuesday, and I think (hope!) they'll finish up tomorrow.  (They can't work on it when it's going to rain and storm, so that adds time.)

Here's a before picture from the side of the garage.  You can see that the color is sort of browny-gray, and the shingles have this specific look, and they're not in good shape.

And here's the same area, from a different angle.  You'll notice that it's a different color and a really different shingle pattern.

At this point, it would really help if you said that the new color is a great choice, because I don't have a lot of confidence in my choices about such things.

  1. The roof looks lovely but the siding underneath needs to be painted a cheerful color like hot pink. Liven up the weather and such.

  2. That's a nice colour! We switched from black to shades of grey when we reroofed in 2009 - in retrospect, browns would have been a nicer change, so I am totally behind your choice!

  3. I agree that the color is very nice!

But uh oh -- your before picture looks suspiciously like MY roof. Of course, I'm renting this house and hope to get out of it ASAP. Just one more reason to look for a new place.

  4. how can you go wrong with a nice brown like that?

i'm not much of a house fashion consultant. my beloved and i have dithered for approximately 14 years over colors for repainting the exterior, because i have strong feelings about yellow not being our color, but we do not agree on the replacement color. also, we've arrived at the stage where we need to replace windows, can't afford all that quite yet, and can't agree on how the new windows will be -- and windows now obviously have to happen before the paint job.

so, you made a good roof choice, and the job got done.

  5. Good color choice - I like lighter colored roofs. Around here, lighter is always better as we get summers that cook houses with dark roofs. Go Bardiac!

  6. I like the colour... especially as it's very similar to MY roof!

  7. Thanks, all! I appreciate the encouragement. I looked at it in the morning light this morning, and decided that I like it well.

Belle, It gets hot enough here that it partly influenced my color choice :) It's mostly covered in winter, but in summer, a little less heat is a good thing!

  8. The color is nice. :) The brownish shade exudes a warm aura, which makes your house look more homey and cozy. Additionally, it complements the white wall paint of your house. :)

  9. I have to agree with the lot here: brown is a nice color for the roof. It’s a warm color, earthy, and quite fitting for a home. It gives you the feeling that you’re welcome to come inside and share the comforts of the house with others. You made a great choice here, Bardiac. Rest assured of that!

  10. Your new roof seems legit! You shied away from the traditional roof colors like your old gray one. Hmm, I share the same idea with Sisyphus. Your siding needs to be repainted. Nevertheless, your roof is very lovely! Just don't forget the maintenance! :)

    Regards,
    Neil
