Summer Project: Cleaned Garage, check
According to my fitbit thing, I walked about 8000 steps cleaning the garage today. I mostly emptied it out, swept, then threw a couple of buckets of water down, swept more (the water helps get rid of the road salt left over. I actually do it a couple times in winter, too, when it's dry, but not with as much water.)
I took this while the water was drying. Once it was dry, I put the stuff back in, including my kayak and car, and now it looks less tidy than it did, but still way better than when I started.
When I was a kid, I used to hate it when my Mom would declare it time to clean the garage. But as an adult, I get to a point where it's just time, and I just do it. It takes a couple of hours, and then I feel way better about it.
People have parties in their garages around here, and also sometimes have TVs set up in them. Where I'm from, I don't remember people having parties or TVs in the garage. Do you have parties or a TV in your garage?
Other people can't park their car in theirs because there's lots of stuff. (Often it's kids stuff; kids acquire lots of stuff to put in garages!)
Our "garage" is actually too tiny for a car, I think; we use it as a shed, but it's more substantial than the sheds of my youth, so we call it a garage. Anyway, the point is that every couple of years, I feel the need to empty it out and sweep the heck out of it and then weed out stuff before I put it back in. It's an exhausting project, but I always feel better about life afterward. I'm inspired by your accomplishment, but actually I should tackle the basement before I tackle the garage, since the former is in worse shape than the latter. And no, I've never heard of people watching TV in their garages!
ReplyDeleteWe have hardly anything except the cars in our garage. But I have to go clean the basement, because it flooded last night. :-(
ReplyDeleteWay to go! We now own two cars so we have to tidy up the second bay of our garage (currently housing trash cans, recycling bins, snowblower, lawnmower, and other stuff). I need to organize all that stuff so we can get both cars into the garage before winter returns.
ReplyDeleteThat looks great!
ReplyDeleteLike WN, we only have a tiny 1-car garage, probably almost as old as our house (95 years)--and since it's detached and doesn't have electricity we virtually never park in it. But for that same reason it isn't very full: just garden stuff, a lawnmower, and the grill & patio furniture in winter.
Never heard of parties in the garage. . . my garage is not this clean, though I did LOTS of organizing in the spring. But I don't have a basement or attic, so I do have a fair bit of junk in it.
ReplyDeleteWow! That is beautifully clean. My garage looks like the before shots on _Hoarders_, but I'm cleaning it out one box at a time.
ReplyDeleteWe live in the rural midwest, and I swear we're the only people in town who actually put a car in the garage. Nearly everyone uses theirs for storage and, yes, TV! They seem to operate on the "mancave" principle around here. TVs, mini-fridges, folding chairs. I can think of little more depressing than watching a sporting event while sitting in my garage, but clearly I am not the target audience for these events.
